On 17th April, 2026, Mafinga District launched the Revised Cash For Work (R-CFW) Programme as part of national efforts to mitigate the impact of the drought that affected several areas across the country.
In attendance was the Guest of Honor, the District Commissioner Mr. Boyd Kaonga, the Councilors and all the WDCS, CWACS and SDMCS.
The Guest of Honor, the District Commissioner Mr. Boyd Kaonga Was pleased to inform the people of Mafinga that today marked the new beginning with a new intervention that has been timely initiated by the government of republic of Zambia through his excellence Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.
The Programme was initially rolled out in 87 districts and has now been extended to all 116 districts for the year 2026.
Speaking at the launch, the District Commissioner Mr. Boyd Kaonga, stated that the district was not spared from the negative effects of the drought. To address the situation, the Government has allocated K1,182,034.00 per month to support 1,803 beneficiaries in Mafinga District.
The Revised Cash For Work (R-CFW) Programme will enable the people of Mafinga to;
β’ Improve immediate access to food, thereby saving lives and averting suffering
β’ Maintain or build community assets while promoting self-reliance through labor-based works
β’ Stimulate economic activity at the community level.
With a strong emphasis, the District Commissioner clarified that beneficiaries who qualify for the Cash For Work Programme are those not currently receiving Social Cash Transfer or Drought Emergency Cash Transfer support.
The scope of works under the R-CFW includes garbage collection, clearing debris in drainages, molding and transportation of bricks for construction of community infrastructure, and other activities outlined in the operational manual for Cash For Work.
Key factors that will enable successful execution of the Programme include community participation and ownership, short-term inclusive employment, willingness to work on the terms and conditions of the Programme, and timely payments, among others.
The Governmentβs commitment to safeguarding livelihoods and building resilience in drought-affected areas remains as one of the core values among many implemented programs.
